NorthWood Golf: Weaver Paces Panthers In Opener
LAFAYETTE – Mackenzie Weaver got her golf season off to a great start Monday.
The NorthWood junior was runner-up to pace the Panthers to a third-place finish in the Lafayette Harrison Invitational.
Weaver, in her third year as a varsity performer, fired a round of 76 as the par 72 Coyote Crossing Golf Club to open the 2017 campaign.
Weaver, who helped coach Adam Yoder’s team to conference and sectional championships a year ago, was just one shot behind individual medalist Kiah Parrot of Kokomo, who earned top honors with her round of 75.
NorthWood, which was ranked No. 18 in the coaches preseason poll, shot 369 as a team. No. 12 Lafayette Jefferson won the team title at 322 with No. 9 Cathedral runner-up at 339.
Abby Slabaugh finished with a 91 for the Panthers. Madison Richner shot a 99 with Kirsten Schrock at 103 and Makenna Gall at 105 for the Panthers.
Crown Point was fourth in the final team standings at 378. Kokomo was fifth at 381, followed by Lafayette Harrison (383), Twin Lakes (403), Plymouth (468), West Lafayette (470) and McCutcheon (471).
NorthWood returns to action Tuesday in the Lafayette Jefferson Invitational at the Battle Ground Golf Club.
