BREAKING: Gyrocopter Crash At Mentone Airport
METONE — A gyrocopter crash occurred at the Mentone Airport shortly before 10 a.m. this morning, Aug. 3.
The operator of the MTO Sport gyrocopter, James Hake, 71, Mich., was injured from the crash with what was believed to be a compound fracture in his wrist, and was transported to the hospital.
Hake was in town to participate in a gyroplane convention going on until Sunday.
Mentone Fire, Mentone Police, Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department and Parkview EMS responded to the crash.
Crews are currently in contact with the Federal Aviation Administration to get permission to move the gyrocopter and create an incident report.
