New Paris Duo Arrested For Multiple Drug Charges
WARSAW — Two New Paris men were arrested after an officer noted that a vehicle was improperly registered. During the traffic stop, various drugs and an unlicensed handgun were discovered.
Shawn Miller, 30, 19100 Tarman Road, New Paris, is being charged with possession of a syringe for legend drug, possession of paraphernalia, carrying a handgun without a license, possession of a narcotic with an enhancement, possession of meth with an enhancement and possession of marijuana.
Brandon Miller, 33, 68525 Jefferson St., New Paris, is being charged with possession of meth, possession of a syringe for legend drug, possession of a narcotic, possession of paraphernalia and possession of legend drug.
On July 27, an officer with the Warsaw Police Department noticed a Ford F150 on Main Street in Warsaw. The vehicle registration plate belonged to a Ford Explorer and was improperly registered. The officer conducted a traffic stop and identified Shawn as the driver and Brandon as the passenger.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, Shawn advised that he had the wrong registration plate on the car and did not have insurance on the vehicle. While talking with Shawn, the officer noticed fresh needle marks on his left arm. Shawn admitted that he had just injected heroin and that there may be some drugs in the vehicle. At this point, the officer obtained permission to search the vehicle.
Different drugs and drug related items were located inside the vehicle. These items included a container of heroin, a partially burnt marijuana cigarette, a container of methamphetamine, a silver spoon with burn marks, Q-tips and two syringes. A loaded 45 caliber handgun was also located inside the vehicle.
After the initial discoveries, the officer arrested Shawn and searched his person. Shawn was in possession of a burnt spoon, two empty syringes, a syringe filled with a brown liquid, a container filled with methamphetamine, a container filled with heroin, a marijuana cigarette and a cut straw. Shawn admitted to using the items found on his person and had no license to carry the found firearm.
The officer then spoke with Brandon who advised that the drugs and paraphernalia discovered inside the vehicle were his. He also did not have a license to carry the found firearm.
Both men were booked into the Kosciusko County Jail on July 27.
