Charlottesville Solidarity Vigil Being Held In Warsaw Tonight
WARSAW — After a violent weekend in Charlottesville, Va., local community members have planned a solidarity vigil for Kosciusko County residents to show their support. A peaceful assembly for unity will occur at 8 p.m. tonight, Aug. 14, at the courthouse in Warsaw.
On Saturday, Aug. 12, white nationalists gathered for a “Unite the Right” march in Charlottesville. Counter protestors arrived and the event quickly became violent, including a vehicle plowing into a crowd of people. This incident injured many and killed one, Heather D. Heyer, 32.
A Facebook event has been created for the vigil and as of this morning 60 people showed interest in attending. While the event shows Kosciusko County Democrats as the hosts, Chairman Brian Smith says the group is not the organizers but rather supporters of the event.
The vigil will be a non partisan, peaceful gathering of those interested in unity.
