Drugs Found When Police Check On Man Sleeping In Vehicle
SYRACUSE — Jason Michael Thorn, 32, 206 E. Lynwood Drive, No. 2, Syracuse, found himself in the Kosciusko County Jail Tuesday morning, Aug. 22, after falling asleep in his car with methamphetamine and paraphernalia in the vehicle.
He was initially booked for possession of methamphetamine, possession of syringe for a legend drug and resisting law enforcement. His bond was set for $5,250 surety and cash.
Syracuse Police were called at 10:45 a.m. to Main Channel Marina to check on a man sleeping in a red Chevrolet Camaro. He was able to identify the sleeping occupant as Thorn, due to prior contact with him. Thorn woke up after the officer knocked on the window multiple times. He said he had an argument with his wife and came to the parking lot sometime during the night and fell asleep.
During Thorn’s conversation with police, the officer could see a clear plastic bag with a white crystal substance sitting in a cup holder. When asked what was in the bag, Thorn grabbed the bag and tried to hide it from the officer. The officer restrained Thorn’s left wrist and ordered him out of the car and to give the officer his hands several times. However, Thorn continued to pull away from the officer, while trying to hide the bag from view. It was not until the officer advised Thorn he was going to taser him if he did not get out of the vehicle, Thorn threw the bag on the passenger floor board and exited the vehicle.
Thorn gave consent to search the vehicle. Police found used and unused syringes, numerous bags with and without a white residue, portable scale and silver spoon. Several of the bags tested positive for methamphetamine. The bag police had observed earlier, contained crystal like substances, which also tested positive for methamphetamine and weighed approximately 3.51 ounces.
