OrthoWorx Hosts Tour At Ivy Tech OAMTC
WARSAW — On Monday, Aug. 28, OrthoWorx hosted a tour of the Ivy Tech Orthopedic and Advanced Manufacturing Training Center, Warsaw Area Career Center and Precision Medical Technologies for faculty and staff of Warsaw, Wawasee, Tippecanoe Valley and Whitko Community school corporations.
The purpose of the tour was to educate faculty and staff about local orthopedic career opportunities available to students so that faculty members can share and promote this information at their schools prior to the ‘Think Ortho’ tour scheduled for Oct. 5.
The ‘Think Ortho’ tour will introduce students and their parents/guardians to the career opportunities available in the orthopedic manufacturing industry.
Tom Till, director of advanced manufacturing, Ivy Tech Orthopedic and Advanced Manufacturing Training Center, led the tour at that facility.
Till, a graduate of Ivy Tech’s Machine Tool Technology program, also earned an associate of science degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology from Purdue University and a bachelor of science degree in Applied Management from Tri-State University.
According to Till, “There is a dire need for workers in this type of industry. Everybody is looking for manufacturing workers. Twenty-nine percent of Indiana’s GDP comes from manufacturing.”
“If you direct your students to this type of career, it doesn’t mean they’re going to be an entry level machinist for the rest of their lives. Once they get their foot in the door, that’s really where they determine what they want to do,” Till stated, “I started in machining and ended up in engineering.”
The tours are part of continued efforts by OrthoWorx to raise awareness among students and parents about career opportunities in the orthopedic manufacturing industry.
