Girls Golf
Wawasee split its Northern Lakes Conference double dual against Concord and host Plymouth Monday evening. The Lady Warriors shot 207 to beat Plymouth’s 216, but Concord beat them both with a 197 at Pretty Lake Country Club, home of the NLC tournament in two weeks.
Belle Brunner and Zoe White each fired 48s to lead Wawasee, but on what was a tough all-around night for the entire field, Wawasee fell victim to big numbers. Jadison Rostochak had a 55, Tate Cowan a 56 and Lesley Tayagua a 57.
Concord’s Elise Boessler led the field with a 45 and sister Lauren Boessler had a 47 to lead the Minutemen. Gabby Sponseller had a 51, Jillian Dawson a 54 and Gracie Tucker a 62.
For the host Pilgrims, Jennah Nifong shot a 51, followed by Emily Cochern at 52, Brittney Klotz at 54, Sarah Youngs 59 and Olivia Waymouth a 63.
“It was good to pick up a win on the road,” said Wawasee head coach Steve Coverstone. “We didn’t play our best, but Bella and Zoe had good days for us.”
Wawasee moves to 8-4 overall and 3-3 in the NLC with a non-conference experience match against state-ranked Culver Academy up next on Wednesday.
Volleyball
The undercard teams from Wawasee’s volleyball program hosted the Goshen Blue Blazers homeschool freshmen and JV teams.
The JV game had Goshen beat Wawasee in three, 25-11, 25-13, 25-17. Stat leaders for the Lady Warriors were Ella Williamson with 11 digs and Ashley Vazquez with seven digs. Molly Jones and Madison Mottern had three kills apiece.
In the freshman contest, the hosts defeated Goshen 25-12, 25-13. Emma Dippon paced the winners with eight aces, four kills and a dig. Delaney Hare had four kills, three digs and an ace, and Cathrine Ondrla had nine assists, four aces and a dig.
