TinCaps Baseball: Franchise Celebrates Attendance Milestone
FORT WAYNE – After a crowd of 6,660 watched the TinCaps at Parkview Field on Thursday – a night when the team celebrated clinching a Midwest League playoff spot for the eighth time in nine seasons – Fort Wayne has eclipsed the 400,000-mark in attendance for a sixth consecutive regular season.
“Thank you to our incredible fans,” TinCaps President Mike Nutter said. “This is another amazing accomplishment that says as much about our area and our partners as it does about our organization.”
With one regular season game remaining at Parkview Field, the TinCaps have drawn 402,922 fans in 68 openings for an average attendance of 5,925. Fort Wayne’s attendance ranks second out of Minor League Baseball’s 60 Single-A teams. It’s also higher than 27 of 30 in Double-A and 10 of 30 Triple-A clubs.
While the franchise’s regular season, and overall, attendance record that was set last year (413,701) is unlikely to be caught, Friday night’s crowd could make 2017 the second most-attended regular season yet. A crowd of 3,794 or more would help surpass the total of 406,715 fans who attended during the 2014 regular season. (See rankings below.)
The TinCaps’ regular season finale is set for Friday, Sept. 1 (7:05 p.m.) against the Great Lakes Loons (Los Angeles Dodgers). Friday night will feature Postgame Fireworks, presented by Indiana Tech. Jake the Diamond Dog will be at the game to entertain fans, too, thanks to Waynedale Grooming Salon. Additionally, all fans will receive a 16-month wall calendar with the team’s 2018 season schedule, courtesy of Parkview Physicians Group.
Also on Friday night, the TinCaps will be wearing special jerseys (“fauxback” ’70s style) that are being auctioned online at TinCapsJersey.com. All proceeds from the jersey auction are going to Minor League Baseball Charities, which is collecting funds from all MiLB teams to be donated to communities in need after Hurricane Harvey in Texas.
The Midwest League Playoffs begin next week. The TinCaps don’t know yet whether or not they’ll be playing the Bowling Green Hot Rods (Tampa Bay Rays) or the South Bend Cubs (Chicago Cubs) in a best-of-three series, but Parkview Field playoff tickets are now on sale.
Tickets are available online at TinCapsTickets.com, by calling 260-482-6400, and at the Parkview Field Ticket Office.
