Cubs Baseball: Gustave Hit Lifts Hot Rods
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Emilio Gustave hit a run-scoring single in the sixth inning, leading the Bowling Green Hot Rods to a 4-2 win over the South Bend Cubs on Sunday.
South Bend had a runner on first in the top of the ninth, but Tyler Payne hit into a double play to end the game.
The single by Gustave capped a three-run inning and gave the Hot Rods a 4-2 lead after Adrian Rondon hit an RBI triple earlier in the inning.
In the bottom of the second, Bowling Green grabbed the lead on a double by Bobby Melley that scored Jesus Sanchez. South Bend answered in the next half-inning when Andruw Monasterio and Kevonte Mitchell hit RBI singles.
J.D. Busfield (5-8) got the win with four innings of scoreless relief while Chad Hockin (3-4) took the loss in the Midwest League game.
With the win, Bowling Green improved to 13-4 against South Bend this season.
