Whitko Football: Zebras Get The Edge
ROCHESTER – A sputtering Whitko offense was welcomed by Rochester Friday night in a 37-7 Zebras win.
Rochester held Whitko under 100 total yards on the night, keeping the Wildcats to 98 total yards. The ability to get the defense off the field helped Rochester build a 28-0 lead at the half and a 37-0 lead after three quarters.
Colin Loe had Whitko’s lone touchdown on the ground in the fourth quarter. Loe led the team with eight rushes for 47 yards. Zach Gardner was limited to 21 yards on 12 carries for Whitko, also catching two passes for 19 yards.
Quarterback Cade Bechtold was 2-7 for 19 yards in the air and lost six yards on six rushes before leaving the game due to injury.
Leading the Wildcats in tackles was Matt Smith with seven, while Mason Lehman and Zakk Neer both contributed to the defense with a sack each.
Rochester’s Corbyn Wood had a great game, running in a touchdown from 54 yards, catching a 51-yard touchdown and running the opening kickoff back 95 yards for a score.
Bryce Abbott had a 12-yard touchdown run, Tyler Johnson plowed in from four yards and Zane Duff made a 31-yard field goal for the Zebras.
Whitko drops to 0-4 while Rochester improves to 4-0. The Wildcats will host Tippecanoe Valley next Friday while Rochester hosts North Miami.
