Betty Louise Rouch — UPDATED
Betty Louise (Shafer) Rouch, 92, died Tuesday Sept. 12, 2017, at the Hearth at Sycamore Village in Fort Wayne. She was born in Argos, on Oct. 18, 1924, and was married on March 2, 1946, to Marvin J. Rouch who preceded her in death. They celebrated 65 years of marriage together before he passed in 2011. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Ida and Verl Shafer of Rochester, and a sister who died as an infant.
Betty is survived by her two daughters: Carol Ann Rouch of Fort Wayne, and Patricia Elaine Rahrig (Anthony) also of Fort Wayne; two grandchildren: Allison Spagnolo (Steven) of Union, N.J.; and Ryan Rahrig of St. Petersburg, Fla. Also surviving is her brother Arthur L. Shafer (Marilyn) of Elkhart, and a sister in law, Arvella Sutton (Jim) of Fulton. Other survivors include two nieces: Karen Beck of Bradenton, Fla., Sandra Wallin of Dowagiac, Mich.; and two nephews: David Shafer and Gary Shafer both of Elkhart, in addition to great nieces and nephews.
Betty retired from the Veteran’s Administration in 1986 where she worked as the Secretary to the Hospital Director. She and Marvin’s marriage was the first one held in the current Walnut Church Building in 1946 and she wished to return there for her funeral services 71 years later.
The funeral service will be held at 1:15 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16, 2017 at the Walnut Church of the Brethren, 19056 Gumwood Rd., Argos. Pastor Robert Rice will officiate. Calling will be from 10 a.m.- noon and interment will be at the Rochester IOOF Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Walnut Church of the Brethren, Walnut Church Ladies Aid or Smile Train.
