Triton Sports Wrap: Sept. 13
Golf
Triton’s golf team got a tune-up in advance of sectionals, and the Lady Trojans earned a win to boot, topping Plymouth 198-202 at Stonehenge Golf Club.
Megan McFarland’s 46 earned her low medalist honors for Triton (15-7), while Kate Gardner shot 48, and Alysha May shot 49 in a trio of sub-50 rounds for the Trojans against sectional opponent Plymouth, on the course they’ll be playing at Saturday’s tournament. Whytnie Miller shot 55 to complete Triton’s score, and Delanie Groves turned in a 64.
Leading Plymouth (5-14) were Jennah Nifong and Brittany Klotz with a pair of 47s. Olivia Waymouth shot 50, Emily Cochern carded 58, and Sarah Youngs shot 59.
LCA’s Abigail Fishel shot 47, and Breanna Smith shot a 62.
Neither Triton nor Plymouth fielded a complete JV squad. Maddie Ritchison’s 59 was the best JV round. Triton teammate Jeanine Soriono shot 60, and Samantha Edington shot 67.
Olivia Horvath carded 63, and Grace Cooper turned in a 68 for Plymouth’s JV.
Tennis
Triton tennis took a 5-0 loss to Jimtown Wednesday night.
The Trojans took just nine total games from their Jimmie counterparts, and all of those came on two courts.
Tyler Heckaman and Jared Bules took a 6-4, 6-2 loss to Tim Gardner and Preston Phillips in the closest match of the night at two doubles. John Gardner’s 6-1, 6-2 loss to Andrew Emeigh at two singles was the only other court wherein Triton was not shut out.
Carter Kuntz fell 0-0 to Austin Pearison at one singles, Trevor Miller lost 0-0 to Nate Behrens at three singles, and Tyler Heckaman and Jared Bules lost 0-0 to Holden Price and Ben Clarke at one doubles.
Triton slips to 8-7, while Jimtown improves to 11-3.
The Trojans’ JV also lost 3-0, while Triton Junior High won its lone match at the meet.
