Jack Linn Houghton, Jr.
Jack Linn Houghton, Jr., 63, of Culver, Ind. died at 12 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 9, 2017 at the Center for
Hospice House in South Bend, where he had been for less that 24 hours. He was very brave and courageous and fought a hard 13 year battle against Stage 4 Metastatic prostate cancer.
Jack was born in Golden, Colo. to Jack L and Vel Houghton. He came to Culver in 1976, after graduating from the University of Colorado. He married Sandra J. White on Nov. 1, 1980.
He was a Purchaser and Buyer for both Walker Mfg of Culver and Dana Corp of Mishawaka, before becoming ill. He was a devoted Denver Broncos fan, attending his first game at age 5. He loved all sports and was on a fantasy football league for 30 years. Most of all he loved spending time with his family, especially their Thanksgiving dinners. He adored his grandchildren, who gave him much joy. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He will be remembered by all for his sense of humor and his positive attitude and will be greatly missed.
Jack is survived by his wife, Sandy; daughters, Amy Hajek of North Judson and Heidi Tanner of Culver; brother, Gary L. Houghton of Golden, Colo.; and three grandchildren Brendon, Chelsea and Emma Hajek. He was preceded in
death by both of his parents.
The family would like to especially thank Drs. David Taber, Rod S. Kubley, Jon Kubley, and Scott Blickensderfer
for the excellent care they provided to Jack. Also, a special thanks to the Center for Hospice Care team in
Plymouth, and his nurse, Kris Bernhardt; Spiritual Care Counselor, Denise Gilbert; the entire Hospice House
staff; and Alicks Home Medical for their empathy, excellent caring and customer service.
Per his wishes, a time to gather with the family will be held at the Odom Funeral Home, Culver, Ind., on Saturday,
Sept. 23, 2017 from 1 to 3 p.m. with a memorial service at 3 p.m. Chaplain Denise Gilbert will
officiate.
Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Jack to the American Cancer Society, Pet Refuge of
Mishawaka, or the Humane Society.
