Poyner Honored By Conference
LAKEPOINT, Ga. – For the first time this season, a member of the Lipscomb University cross country team has been named the ASUN Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week as the league offices announced on Wednesday that senior Jacob Poyner has earned the honor.
This is Poyner’s second weekly award win for his career, and his first since 2015.
Poyner was a standout in both cross country and track during his high school career at WCHS.
Poyner placed seventh overall at the Commodore Classic with a time of 25:12.1, taking the top spot for the Bisons as he finished just 1.3 seconds ahead of fellow senior Juan Gonzalez.
Poyner helped Lipscomb place third with 92 points in the team standings, trailing only nationally-ranked Middle Tennessee and regionally-ranked Butler.
Poyner and the rest of the Bisons will be back on the course on Sept. 30 at the Louisville Classic.
