Triton Tennis: Heckaman, Bules Win HNAC Title
KNOX — Triton one doubles partners Tyler Heckaman and Jared Bules won a Hoosier North Athletic Conference championship at their position, but Knox claimed the HNAC team title with a win at one singles in the final round of the conference tournament at Knox Thursday night.
The two teams were knotted at 5-1 in conference play, and Eian Coad’s 6-1, 6-0 victory over Carter Kuntz in the one singles championship Thursday determined the team title in accordance with the HNAC bylaws.
Heckaman and Bules beat Knox’s Ethan Sanders and Devan Himes 6-0, 6-2 for Triton’s only all-conference finish after the Trojans advanced to the finals at all five positions Wednesday night.
Keygan Mosier and Chase Butler won their first set but lost a third-set tiebreaker to fall heartbreakingly short of Knox’s Ethan Cooper and Clint Stacy, 4-6, 6-2, 7-6(2), at one doubles. John Gardner lost a close two-setter to Knox’s Jake Krueger at two singles, 6-4, 7-5, and Trever Miller fell 6-2, 6-0 to Redskins’ No. 3 Zac Eby.
