IHSAA Soccer Sectionals: Map Opened For Soccer Journey
INDIANAPOLIS – The IHSAA held its boys and girls soccer sectional draws Sunday night, laying out the routes for the first-ever three class format.
Two area schools will host sectionals, Warsaw the 3-A boys No. 7 and Wawasee the 2-A boys No. 20.
Warsaw’s pairings will include some new faces from the east, the Tigers opening up with Fort Wayne South Side in the first game of the grid. Warsaw is looking for its first sectional championship since 2013, but will find a six-team grid where four of the five other teams have won a sectional championship in the last four years.
Wawasee’s soccer tournament history is very thin, where the Warriors haven’t had any tournament success since 2002 when the team made a semi-state run. Hosting on its new turf, Wawasee has found the home cooking a little sour having not won a match in Syracuse since late August. Wawasee will get a rematch with Lakeland in game two of the six-team bracket, Wawasee a 4-0 winner over the Lakers last week. NorthWood and West Noble meet in game one in what should be quite a battle.
NorthWood and Wawasee will meet in the girls 2-A No. 20 Lakeland Sectional, the winner advancing to the championship of the six-team bracket. The heavy favorite in the bracket will be DeKalb, which comes in ranked No. 6 and has just one loss through the weekend.
Warsaw will tackle a new challenge in the girls grid in 3-A No. 7 at Fort Wayne South Side. The Lady Tigers open with the host South Side, and will have to travel to Fort Wayne three times if it wants to win the title. Sitting in the bracket is Homestead, likely the primary club to give Warsaw the most trouble. The two teams played to a 1-0 final in favor of Warsaw on Aug. 31 in Allen County.
LCA’s two teams will take on Class 1-A challenges, the girls drawing Lakewood Park in game two of the No. 36 bracket at Bethany Christian. The LCA boys are at Argos for sectional No. 36, where the Cougars will see either the hosts or North Miami after drawing the bye.
At Maconaquah in 2-A No. 22, Tippecanoe Valley and Columbia City will square off for a ticket to the finals, drawing the bottom matchup of the six-team set.
