Raptor System To Be Used Beginning Monday
SYRACUSE — Wawasee Community School Corporation released a statement Thursday afternoon, Sept. 28, regarding the Raptor Visitor Management System to be used in each school building in the corporation.
“A priority of the Wawasee Community School Corporation is the safety of our students and staff. As a district, we have updated entrances, added additional cameras inside and outside of buildings, have employees complete extended background checks and do background checks on volunteers in our schools.
“On Monday, Oct. 2, 2017, the Wawasee Community School Corporation will begin using the Raptor Visitor Management System in each of our schools to add one more layer to providing a safe environment for our students and staff.
“What is the Raptor Visitor Management System? The system is used to make sure that people entering our schools and going out into areas where there are students are not people who are at risk to our students.
“How does the Raptor Visitor Management System work? When people visit our schools during the day, if they are entering student areas, they will use a computer kiosk in the main office to scan their driver’s license or state identification. The system then runs a fast check of sex offender registries to make sure the visitor will not be a risk to students and alerts office staff to any risks. A visitor badge will be printed out for the visitor to wear as he or she is out and about in the school. The visitor will then check out in the main office when he or she leaves. This only applies to visitors who are entering the school building, not visitors who remain in the main office.
“Thank you for your continued support in helping ensure that Wawasee Community Schools is a safe learning environment for students to learn and grow. Please contact your student’s school if you have any further questions.”
