Warsaw Sports Wrap: Sept. 28
Boys Soccer
The Warsaw boys soccer team closed out regular season action with a 3-1 win over Northridge.
The duo of Garrett Reinholt and Eric O’cock led the Tigers to the Northern Lakes Conference win in Middlebury.
Reinholt tallied a pair of first-half goals, both assisted by O’cock, as Warsaw built a 2-0 halftime lead in the final NLC match.
O’cock then tallied a second-half score, assisted by Blake Burns, to put the Tigers up 3-0. The Raiders then scored their lone goal for the 3-1 final.
Warsaw goalie Harrison Mevis, along with the Tiger defense, turned in a strong effort in the victory.
Warsaw improves to 10-5-2 overall and finishes at 4-3 in NLC play.
Northridge won the junior varsity game 2-0. The Warsaw JV squad finishes its season at 8-5-1 overall and with a 5-2 mark in the NLC.
Warsaw will begin postseason play Monday night. The Tigers face Fort Wayne South in the opening game of the Class 3-A Warsaw Sectional at 5 p.m.
Freshman Football
The Warsaw freshman football team rolled to a 42-14 win over host Goshen Thursday night.
The duo of Aaron Greene and Mason Martz had a huge night to lead the Tigers to the Northern Lakes Conference win.
Greene fired four touchdown passes and Martz hauled in two of those. Martz also scored on a 65-yard run for the Tigers in the win.
Ian Sutton had a pair of touchdown receptions and Colton Wampler ran for a score for Warsaw, which led 19-7 at halftime. Jacob Hawn had a two-point conversion and Hawn and Wampler both had strong rushing performances.
Austin Bays had a pair of sacks and Damien Villa one to pace the defense. Patrick Zollinger had an interception for the winners. Andres Adame and Dallas Anders were also cited for their strong defensive play for the Tigers.
Warsaw improves to 5-2 overall and goes to 3-2 in NLC action.
The Tigers host Wawasee next Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
