Grace Athletes Miller, Nienhuis Saluted
WINONA LAKE – Grace College athletes Sara Miller and Tristan Nienhuis were both honored Monday.
Miller won her second Crossroads League Defender of the Week award for the Grace volleyball team. Nienhuis was saluted as the NCCAA National Golfer of the Week for the Lancers.
Miller was dominant defensively last week, averaging an incredible 8.0 digs per set against the top two Crossroads League teams.
She had 22 digs in a 3-0 sweep of No. 25 Marian on Wednesday, beating a team that had won 21 of its past 22 matches. Miller followed that up with 26 digs and two aces against Indiana Wesleyan, who is receiving votes in the NAIA.
Miller boasts 1,798 digs to her credit and is just shy of 600 digs (597) for the season.
The Lady Lancers have two matches this week, including at Goshen on Wednesday and home against Bethel on Friday.
Nienhuis, the No. 1 player in the Lancer lineup, was Grace’s steadiest golfer last week at the Egypt Valley Intercollegiate. The large 14-team tournament was held at Michigan’s Egypt Valley Country Club.
Nienhuis shot two identical rounds of 79 in the tournament and was the Lancers’ best golfer by seven strokes.
The Lancers end the fall season on Tuesday, wrapping up a two-day tourney at Whistling Straights Golf Club.
