FORT WAYNE – Grace’s women’s basketball team was unable to slow down No. 14 Indiana Tech on Tuesday, falling 88-70.

The Lady Lancers saw the Warriors (2-1) top 20 points in three of the four quarters, nullifying an impressive 35-point fourth quarter for Grace.

The game remained close through the first half. The Warriors tried to pull away in the first quarter with an early 12-point lead, but back-to-back triples from Vironnica Drake and Lauren Godfrey helped the Lady Lancers rebound.

Grace trailed by five after the first quarter as Rachel Montgomery scored a layup in the final seconds.

The Lady Lancers (1-4) went into halftime behind 37-29.

Matters became worse for Grace in the third quarter. The Lady Lancers struggled mightily on offense, making 2-of-15 from the floor and 1-of-4 from the free throw line. The Warriors capitalized by outscoring Grace 21-6 in the stanza to go ahead by 23.

Grace quickly forgot its offensive woes; the Lady Lancers found a golden touch in the fourth quarter, racking up 35 points.

The Warriors coughed up the ball six times in the last quarter as Grace’s defense became more aggressive.

Micaela Box was hot early in the period with five quick points and finishing with nine in the quarter. Vironnica Drake poured in eight points, and Kyannah Stull and Melissa Goss each hit a 3-pointer.

But Grace’s 35-point outburst was not enough to puncture Indiana Tech’s lead as the Warriors eased away for the win.

Drake led the team with 13 points and two steals, and Box added 11 points, 5 boards and 3 assists.

Stull and Brooke Sugg scored seven points apiece, Montgomery added eight points, and Myriah Hoffman and Lauren Godfrey each tallied six points.

The Lady Lancers will travel to Governors State on Saturday for a 2 p.m. game.
