Man Convicted, Failed To Pay Over $20,000 In Child Support
KOSCIUSKO — On Wednesday, Nov. 8, a two day jury trial concluded in Kosciusko Superior Court III by convicting Mylon S. Betts, 39, of two counts of failing to support his dependent child.
The Kosciusko County Prosecuting Attorneys Office charged Betts with the two counts which encompassed 2014 and 2015. The evidence introduced at trial indicated that the Kosciusko County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, Child Support Division, has had a long history of enforcement efforts against Betts which included a prior conviction in 2007 for non-support of a dependent child. As a result of his prior conviction, Betts’ charges were enhanced to level 5 felonies which the jury convicted him of each and every count. In September, 2015, a Kosciusko court determined Betts to be $21,564.19 delinquent in child support.
A sentencing hearing has been scheduled for Dec. 7, before the Kosciusko County Superior Court III Judge Joe Sutton. A level 5 felony carries a possible imprisonment of six years.
