Wawasee Fall Sports: Award Winners Announced
SYRACUSE — The Wawasee Athletic Department held its 2017 fall awards ceremony Monday. Team awards were given out, nine Warrior Way Award winners were announced, and the school’s highest athletic award — the Blanket Award — was given to volleyball player Hannah-Marie Lamle.
Warrior Way winners, with their sport in parentheses, were Evelin Romo (girls cross country), Lesley Tayagua (girls golf), Veronica Valencia (cheerleading), Ashley Vazquez (volleyball), Natalie Winters (girls soccer), Devon Dewitt (boys soccer), Zak Linnemeier (football), Dylan Staley (tennis), Lamle (blanket winner), Spencer Hare (boys cross country).
Other volleyball winners were Peyton Rookstool (varsity Hustle Award) and Janae Hapner (varsity Heart of a Warrior Award), Ella Williamson (JV Hustle Award) and Madison Mottern (JV Heart of a Warrior Award) and Catherine Ondrla (freshman Hustle Award) and Abby Morehead (freshman Heart of a Warrior Award).
Football winners also included Dylan Hepler (varsity Offensive Player of the Year), Elisha Tipping (varsity Defensive POY), Jacob Hand (varsity special teams MVP), Dane Jenkins (JV Scout Team POY), Evan Gregory (JV Glue Award) and Justin Castro (freshman POY).
Cheerleading winners were Taylor Meek (varsity MVP), Brayanna Kelly (JV MVP), Emma Ebright (freshman MVP), Amaya Rhodes (JV Spirit Award), Kellishandra Mendoza (varsity Mental Attitude Award) and Katelyn Trimble (freshman Most Improved Award).
Girls XC winners were McKenzie Smith (MVP), Lauren Horn (Most Improved), Morgan Ebright (Mental Attitude), Caitlin Wortinger (Rookie of the Year), Autumn Turner (Fighter Award), Reagan Atwood (IAM3 Award).
Boys XC award-winners were Karlson Hand (Most Improved), Jace Alexander (Newcomer Impact), Michael Hammer (Dedication to Training), Luke Griner and Spencer Hare (Competitive Toughness), Bennett Hoffert (Encouragement and Inspiration Award).
Boys tennis winners were Jake Cowan (98 Percent Mental Attitude Award), Jacob Krugman (Most Improved Doubles Player), Graham Perek (Most Improved Singles Player) and Colin Rhoades (Most Improved JV Player).
Girls soccer winners were Natalie Winters (Warrior Way Award), Sara Pritchard (Offensive Award), Kendra Doerr (Defensive Award), Meghan Beer (Mental Attitude Award) and Graceanne Kerlin (Most Improved).
Winning awards for the girls golf team were Belle Bruner (MVP), Jadison Rostochak (Coaches Award 3rd Medalist), Zoe White (Coaches Award 2nd Medalist) and Valerie Haessig (Most Improved).
Boys soccer winners were Eric Yankosky (varsity Defensive Award), Chris Pena (MVP Varsity), Ryan Edington (varsity Offensive Award), Jace Mishler (JV Offensive Award), Kenyon Cotton (JV Defensive Award) and Ashton Stookey (JV MVP).
