UNIVERSITY PARK, Ill. – The Grace College women’s basketball earned a hard-fought 67-66 overtime win at Governors State on Saturday.

A free throw from Micaela Box in the last minute of OT secured the one-point win for the Lady Lancers (2-4), who made two straight defensive stops to pick up the win.

Kelsie Peterson nearly won the game for Grace in regulation. She scored the go-ahead basket with 10 seconds on the clock to give the Lady Lancers a 60-58 lead.

But Governors State was fouled with four seconds remaining and hit both free throws, sending the game to overtime.

Grace never trailed in the overtime period and went ahead 66-63 after Brooke Sugg converted an and-1 with 3:04 remaining.

The Jaguars (3-2) battled back to tie the game with 1:32 to play, and Box was fouled on the ensuing possession. Box hit 1-of-2 from the foul line which proved to be the difference.

Grace stopped Governors State on two straight possessions in the last minute, forcing a turnover and a missed jump shot at the end to win by one.

Sugg tied for scoring honors on the night with 19 points, Peterson tallied 11 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists, and Vironnica Drake added 12 points and five boards.

Myriah Hoffman was a spark off the bench with eight points in less than 10 minutes of action, Box added nine points, and Kyannah Stull buried two 3-pointers off the bench.

Both teams shot under 38 percent for the game, but Grace forced the Jaguars into 20 turnovers.

The Lady Lancers are off until next weekend’s home tournament on Nov. 17-18. Grace is joining with the men’s basketball team for the annual Terry Polston Hoops for Hope, this year honoring the late Carol Forbes.
