Warsaw Police Spread Christmas Cheer Through Shop With A Hero Event
WARSAW — The Warsaw Police Department helped make a few more children smile this Christmas season. The department hosted its fifth annual Shop With A Hero event last night, Dec. 14.
Twelve children were specifically identified by their schools or teachers as needing a little extra help this holiday season.
The evening began at Burger King, owned and operated by Quality Dining Inc. Burger King provided dinner for the children, officers and the families. Santa Claus was even present to listen to the children’s wishes and pose for photos.
With their bellies full, the children piled into police cars and were escorted to Meijer with lights and sirens.
Every child was given a specific budget for clothes and toys, ensuring a few practical gifts were purchased along with the fun ones. Meijer completely donated all of the gifts. Each officer was paired with a child and together they enjoyed a night of shopping, playing and lots of smiles.
“It’s definitely giving back to the community and making sure they get a good Christmas,” commented Warsaw D.A.R.E. Officer Roy Navarro.
The Warsaw FOP is hosting a similar event at Meijer next Thursday. The evening will be full of officers from agencies across the county and even more children.
