Winter Classes And Events At The Y
WARSAW — The Kosciusko Community YMCA will be starting winter classes on Jan. 8. Classes will run through Feb. 18. Classes for youth will include swim lessons, youth fitness and gymnastics classes for all ages. Registration for winter classes will start for everyone on Dec. 18.
Classes that promote the Healthy Living aspect of your Y will include group exercise and indoor group cycling, classes for older adults and water aerobics in both the warm water and lap pools. The YMCA’s adult Co-ed Volleyball League will be starting up again from 7 to 10 p.m. Mondays Jan. 8 through March 26. Register a team by Jan. 3. Maximum of four males on a team and the team can be between 6 and 9 players. For more information please contact Zane Gard at [email protected].
To support those in our community going through cancer and their caregivers, the Y is hosting “Kathy’s Cancer Conversations,” a volunteer-led cancer support group meeting from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. on the second Monday of each month in the Parkview Center for Healthy Living inside the YMCA. English as a Second Language will be offered at the Y in partnership with Winona Lake Grace Brethren Church for those 18 and up at 6:30-8 p.m Tuesdays starting Jan. 9 There are five different levels based on ability. Badminton is a new sport at the YMCA with open play at 6:30-7:45 p.m. Tuesday evenings, Jan. 9 through March 22 and from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sundays, Jan. 21 to May 20. For more information please contact Zane Gard at [email protected].
There will be a 5 on 5 Adult Basketball League on Thursdays starting between 7 and 9 p.m. at the Parkview Warsaw YMCA, Jan. 11 through March 29. Teams should have 7-10 players. Sign up by Jan. 7. For more information please contact Zane Gard at [email protected].

The Adult Beginner Spanish 3 course starting on Jan. 16 will be a progressive course offering Spanish for adults. This class will require a basic understanding of Spanish grammar. The YMCA is partnering with Crosswinds Counseling to offer a monthly seminar titled “Maximizing Your Marriage.” These seminars will enable individuals and families to claim control, restore relationships and build hope. The seminars are facilitated by Crosswinds therapists and/or family coaches. They will take place in the Parkview Warsaw YMCA multipurpose room 2, the third Wednesday of each month in January, February and March.
The YMCA’s Eight Weeks to Fitness will be starting on Jan. 30 after pre-testing on Jan. 29. For Y members only, this program is designed to combine regular physical activity with the knowledge and understanding to maintain a healthy weight, reduce the risk of diseases and promote overall health. Personal trainers will help participants set goals and work with them through them and through weekly nutrition accountability for eight weeks in a small group setting. There will be initial blood work and follow-up blood work included in the program. Classes will be held four times a week at the YMCA to offer a wide variety of times for participants.
