County BZA Holds First Meeting Of 2018
WARSAW — Kosciusko County Board of Zoning Appeals held its first meeting of 2018 Tuesday morning, Jan. 9, in Warsaw. Officers for 2018 were elected and Lee Harman will be chairman, Chuck Haffner vice chairman and Charlotte Siegfried, secretary.
Agenda items included:
• David Labitzke was granted a variance to allow awning on his residence to be constructed 22 feet from the right of way on Neher Road, west of Pleasant Street in Lake Township.
• Brian Erne was granted a variance to permit the construction of a garage with guest quarters on a tract with a residence. The property is located on EMS B40 Lane in Tippecanoe Township. As a condition to the approval, a deed restriction must be in place stating it must remain a single family residence and not rented separately.
• John Mesta was granted a variance to allow a residence addition on the second floor 2.9 feet from a west property line on Koher Road South, north of Hamman Lake Road in Turkey Creek Township. As a condition to approval, he must obtain a letter of approval from an adjacent property owner.
• Ernest Kuhns was granted an exception to expand a home based business, building storage barns and cabins, by allowing a 50 x 100 foot warehouse building on CR 750N, west of CR 800W in Etna Township.
• Janet Cassidy’s petition to permit the construction of a new residence 4 feet from the right of way and at the water’s edge on EMS B11 Lane, north of Kuhn Lake Channel in Tippecanoe Township was tabled until February due to a 2-2 vote and a fifth member of the BZA not present.
• Scott and Jane Holmes were granted a variance to allow living quarters to remain in a pole building while a residence is being constructed on CR 550W, north of CR 950S in Seward Township.
• Royella Smith was granted a variance to allow a 12 x 16 foot shed to remain as placed 19 feet from the right of way and 5 feet from the west sideline on CR 850S, southeast of Fisherman Cove in Seward Township.
• Shawn Senter’s petition for an exception for the purpose of altering a previously granted petition by allowing a full service marina in a commercial district was tabled until the February meeting due to a request for more information. The property is on Treasure Island Road, south of Rainbow Lane in Turkey Creek Township.
