Triton Basketball: Trojans Return To Play With Win Over Bethany
BOURBON — Triton’s boys basketball team returned from a more than three-week layover with a 44-35 win over Bethany Christian Thursday night.
The Trojans (4-4) led by a tentative 29-27 margin before a 15-8 final period sealed the deal over the Bruins (2-8) in a game rerouted to Triton Elementary because of a busted water pipe in the THS locker room.
Ross Johnson led a balanced Triton scoring effort with 14 points, followed by Jared Bules’ 10 and seven and six points, respectively, from Beau Hepler and Delano Shumpert. The Trojans got 21 points off 16 Bethany turnovers compared to only eight giveaways of their own, and scored 11 second chance points on seven offensive rebounds to overcome a 14 of 25 (56 percent) shooting night by the Bruins. The home team scored at an efficient 15 of 31 (48.4 percent) clip themselves on the way to their second straight win.
Bethany got a game-high 15 points and six rebounds from Seth Brenneman and eight points from Lucas Brownsberger-Keyes, while Kory Kern passed out seven assists in the loss.
Triton’s junior varsity lineup also won its game, 36-29. The JV Trojans built a 21-11 lead heading into the final period and weathered an 18-point quarter by their Bruins counterparts over the last eight minutes. Hunter McIntyre scored 10 points to lead Triton off the bench in the win, as the Trojans got 19 points from their reserves compared to a single bucket by Bethany’s subs. Trenton Kreft scored eight, and John Gardner finished with 10 for Triton, which limited the Bruins to 10 of 36 (27.8 percent) shooting from the field.
Jachin Camoriano recorded a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds for the visitors, while Anthony Moser scored 10 in the loss.
Triton will play in a boys/ girls doubleheader tonight at Culver Community.
