Walsh Charged In 2016 Theft Of Money And Gun
KOSCIUSKO COUNTY — A man nearing his completed sentence in Whitley County was brought back to Kosciusko County and booked on charges of burglary and theft.
John Michael Walsh, 21, 9037 Dale Lane, Claypool, is facing charges of burglary, a level 4 felony, and theft, a level 6 felony. He was booked in the county jail Jan. 11, and held on $15,250 surety and cash bond.
The affidavit of probable cause, filed Aug. 14, 2017, reports June 9, 2016, officers with the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department were notified of a burglary at the residence of Jerry Hendrix. He reported someone had broken a window at his residence and removed $300 in cash. He stated in a break-in May 30, approximately $100 was taken along with a Ruger LCP handgun.
Police found a red stain outside the window and collected it as evidence, as well as fingerprints and palm prints from another area. The evidence was submitted to the Indiana State Police Laboratory for identifying.
Hendrix notified police several weeks later and provided police with the name of the individual he learned had purchased his handgun. That same individual returned the gun to Hendrix and provided the name of an individual who he had received the gun from.
During the investigation police spoke with one of the individuals Hendrix had mentioned and Walsh was present. Walsh told police a third person found the gun near his mailbox and called Walsh over where he observed the gun in the weeds. Walsh and that individual grabbed the gun and walked to a residence where that occupant allegedly kept the gun. Walsh stated once that individual learned it was stolen he gave it to another individual. However the individual who reportedly kept the gun, stated he never saw Walsh or the other individual find the stolen gun.
Authorities were notified in May by the Indiana State Police laboratory the fingerprints obtained at the original scene were those of John Walsh. He later admitted to police he did break into the Hendrix home and another individual climbed into the residence and stole the gun and money.
