ROCHESTER — The Akron Area Arts League is welcoming a new president, replacing Karen Drones who served on the board for 10 years. Rhoda Kiesow, Rochester, was announced as the group’s new director in September.
Kiesow had always loved art, stating that she was the top of her class in art in high school. Being informed of the position, and wanting to become more involved in the community, she decided to take on the challenge of the position.
“I do like my new position as directer. I am looking forward to seeing and chatting with members and potential members as our spring and summer is full of art activities,” says Kiesow.
Currently the league is have a poster contest; any medium is welcomed and there is a $200 cash prize for the winner.
“This poster will be put at the entry door to our 4th of July art exhibit we have every year in Akron at the Akron Community Center,” explains Kiesow.
If your an artist and would like to enter, entry forms need to be in by Feb. 26. All the info is on the events page at www.akronareaarts.com.
There will be a March Madness themed mystery dinner coming up, with tickets going on sale Feb. 5. Keep an eye on the website linked above for tickets, or visit Tony’s restaurant off of SR 25 or the Rochester Library.
On May 7 the league will be hosting a mother/daughter art class from 6-7:45 p.m. The type of art we are doing will be determined at a later date.
Kiesow states: “If you are a member of the Akron Area Arts League, thank you so much for your support! If you are not, become a member today. The cost is only $20 a year and over $20 makes you a patron. Not only can we use the financial support, but we can also use volunteers when we have events. All the information to become a member is on our website. If you love the arts, this is an excellent way to promote the arts in our area.”
