GOSHEN — Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department responded at 12:26 p.m. Monday, Jan. 22, to a report of an item found near a mailbox in the 18000 block of CR 42.

Officers responded and located an item wrapped in black tape with a fuse attached to it. The Elkhart City Bomb Unit went to the scene to help with the removal and disposal of the device. The sheriff’s department closed CR 42 between SR 15 and CR 27 until the area was made safe.

The road was reopened around 3 p.m.
