Overnight Guest Faces Theft Charges
WARSAW — A Warsaw woman was arrested on charges of theft in connection with a stolen firearm.
Haley Dawn Fountain, 25, 944 E. Garfield St., Warsaw, was booked for theft, a level 6 felony.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, a male reported that on Jan. 3, a female acquaintance of his and Fountain, asked if they could spend the night at his residence. On Jan. 4, the male left to go to work, advising that both females were still at his residence. When he returned home at 3 p.m. that day, he found that both women were gone and his residence had been ransacked.
The male discovered that his Springfield 45 caliber handgun was missing. He advised officers that Fountain had asked him several times to sell one of his guns to a male subject, but he had refused.
On Jan. 10, officers with the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department executed a search warrant at that male subject’s home and recovered stolen property. Fountain was located inside the residence. Fountain admitted that she and the other female had spent the night at the male’s residence and advised that the other female had brought out a laundry basket containing items from the home. The basket contained a Wi-Fi smart net camera and a Q7 HD camera. Fountain admitted that the cameras belonged to the male.
Officers spoke with the male on Jan. 11. He advised he did find that his cameras were stolen from under his bed and informed officers that the cameras had been located very close to his handgun. He further advised that he had sent text messages to the female acquaintance asking about the handgun and that she had admitted seeing the handgun.
The male reported that a few days after the theft, the two women came to his residence and both were wearing his clothes that they had stolen and that he had not given them permission to have.
Fountain was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail on Feb. 4 with a $5,250 surety and cash bond.
