Milford Man Charged In Theft Of Gun, Potato Chips
MILFORD — A Milford man was arrested after he entered an apartment and took several items, including a .38 caliber Smith & Wesson revolver.
Nick C. Hunsberger II, 27, 2517 West CR 1250N, Milford, was charged with count I burglary, a level 4 felony, and count II theft, a level 6 felony.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, an officer with the Nappanee Police Department responded to a burglary/theft complaint Aug. 15, 2017. The officer spoke with the victim, who stated that several items had been taken from her apartment between 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. that day.
The items reported missing included a .38 caliber Smith & Wesson revolver model 637 with holster, two gold diamond rings, one silver diamond ring, 30 rare coins, 10 prescription Adderall pills and two containers of Pringles potato chips. The value of the items was estimated to be $3,695.
The victim told the police officer that she had observed a female hanging around outside the apartment earlier in the day. She also advised that a male, later identified as Hunsberger II, helped her move some furniture around inside her apartment earlier that day. During that time, Hunsberger II became aware of the victim’s Smith & Wesson handgun.
A friend of the victim provided a cell phone picture of a Smith & Wesson model 637 that Hunsberger II was trying to sell. On Oct. 5, the officer conducted an interview with the female who had been observed hanging around outside the apartment the day of the burglary. The female advised that she works for the apartment complex where the victim resides. The female stated that Hunsberger II asked for a credit card so that he could gain entry into the victim’s apartment in order to retrieve something he had left there earlier in the day. The female observed Hunsberger II and another male enter the apartment.
Hunsberger II had a backpack, which he forgot and left in the female’s possession. Hunsberger II later phoned the female and asked her to look inside the backpack for some coins. While doing so, the female located the coins and several rings.
Hunsberger II was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail Feb. 5, 2018 with a $15, 250 surety and cash bond.
