Raiders Earn Share Of NLC Hoops Title
MIDDLEBURY – The Northridge boys basketball team did not mind being in a sharing mood Thursday night.
The Raiders rode a strong second-half surge to earn a share of the Northern Lakes Conference championship.
Connor Utley led the way as the hosts topped Concord 63-48 in the NLC finale for both teams.
Northridge finishes at 5-2 in NLC action to share the title with Warsaw. The Tigers beat Plymouth 53-43 Tuesday night to wrap up league play also at 5-2. It’s the first NLC title for the Raiders since 2014 and the first time that the league has had a two-loss champion since Warsaw in 2004.
Northridge and Warsaw finish atop the final league standings at 5-2. NorthWood, along with Plymouth and Elkhart Memorial, all finish at 4-3 with Concord, Wawasee and Goshen each at 2-5. The tie atop the NLC standings is the first time since 2007.
The Raiders also helped capped off an incredible winter sports season in the NLC at Northridge. All five of the Raider athletic teams, boys basketball, girls basketball, girls swimming, boys swimming and wrestling, won NLC championships. That’s the first time ever for that accomplishment in league history.
Uttey scored 12 of his game-high 24 points in the final frame to lead the Raiders to the title.
Concord led 20-15 after the opening period and 31-27 at halftime before Northridge took control in the second half.
