IHSAA Boys State Swimming: Seven Get Callbacks To State Meet
INDIANAPOLIS – What was already an unbelievable Saturday of swimming saw some serious speed get another chance to showcase its jets.
Seven times from the Concord Boys Swim Sectional got a call from the state as at-large additions to the IHSAA Boys Swim State Finals. In a meet where eight lanes earned their ways to the meet without winning a title but met state cut times, five more relays and two individuals will also make the trip to Friday’s preliminary round.
The Concord medley relay team posted a 1:37.93 and got the call, as did the Elkhart Central 200 free relay (1:28.71) and the Blue Blazer 400 free relay (3:13.73). The 400 relay was electric, as both Northridge (3:14.23) and the Wawasee (3:16.02) teams will also move on.
Individually, Wawasee’s Jared Krugman posted a 1:44.05 in the 200 freestyle and will move on, as will Elkhart Central’s Eric Kelm in the butterfly, clocking a 51.86.
In all, the State Finals had a whopping 241 individuals and relay teams post state cut times. Among that total, 31 did so in the 50 and 100 freestyles, 23 medley relay teams and 22 200 free relay teams.
The IHSAA Boys Swimming State Finals will begin Friday night at IUPUI in Indianapolis with the preliminary rounds of swimming and wrap up Saturday with diving and swim championships.
