Flooding Causing Access Issues Throughout The County
KOSCIUSKO — While the flooding in Kosciusko County isn’t as severe as areas to the north, it is still causing major access issues. Many roads remain closed due to high water and the issues are expected to linger for several days.
The Forest Park Mobile Home Community in Warsaw is one of the many local areas experiencing flooding. Currently, the entrance to the park is flooded with high water, making the one-way access impassable to many. Residents are parking their cars at the front of the park and walking through the high water to get to their homes.
“I’d say it’s about 3-4 feet deep, if not more” said one park resident who wishes to remain unnamed. “Getting in and out of the park is a mess, because residents are being told to park their car at the entrance and walk to their homes. The park is quite long, so people who live in the very back are frankly quite mad about it.”
“There were loads of vehicles that had died in the flood. We’re pretty much told that if our car doesn’t make it across, we should walk if we need to get somewhere. As someone who pays to live here, it’s pretty unreasonable when they only choose to have one entrance and one exit.”
As of yesterday, Feb. 21, the Tippecanoe River was measuring at 14.07 feet, which is over two feet above flood stage. Predictions indicate that the level is rising and not expected to crest until Saturday afternoon at 15.1 feet. This would indicate that flood levels could rise an additional foot higher than current levels before they level off.
