IWU Ladies Earn Spot In NAIA National Tourney
MARION – For the 15th time in program history, the Indiana Wesleyan women’s basketball is headed to the Tyson Events Center for the NAIA Division II National Championship.
The Wildcats enter the tournament as a No. 5 seed and face No. 4 seed Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) at 4:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday, March 7 in Sioux City, Iowa.
The IWU ladies roster includes former Warsaw star Dayton Groninger. The freshman is averaging seven points and almost four rebounds per game this season.
The Wildcats, who are ranked No. 15 nationally, are 24-9.
The Wildcats will begin their quest for their third NAIA National Championship against Olivet Nazarene in the Naismith Bracket. The Tigers finished second in regular season CCAC action before losing to No.4 Saint Xavier in the finals on Saturday night.
The Tigers went 23-9 overall and 18-2 in conference play. ONU is led in scoring by Jess Learned who is averaging 18.3 points per game while Maggie Schmidt is second at 17 points per game.
Other teams in Indiana Wesleyan’s quadrant are No. 1 Southeastern (Fla.), No. 2 Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.), No. 3 Southern Oregon, No. 6 Antelope Valley (Calif.), No. 7 IU-East, and No. 8 Cornerstone (Mich.).
