Lake City Bank Hosts Agribusiness Seminar
WARSAW — Lake City Bank hosted an agribusiness seminar today, March 21, featuring David Kohl, Ph.D., a nationally known speaker on global economic trends affecting business, particularly in the agribusiness sector, and Christopher Hurt, Ph.D., professor of agricultural economics at Purdue University.
The seminar, “Positioning for Success in the Economic Reset,” is designed to help producers and agricultural management teams understand emerging financial trends in agriculture in the fourth year of the agricultural economic reset. It was held at the Winona Heritage Room, 901 Park Avenue, Winona Lake.
“Agribusiness plays a critical role in our regional economy and represents a vital contributor to our state and region,” said Joe Kessie, senior vice president, commercial south regional manager. “Lake City Bank has been committed to our agricultural clients for more than 120 years.”
Kohl is president of Agrivision, LLC, a knowledge-based consulting business providing cutting-edge programs to leading organizations worldwide. He has conducted thousands of workshops and seminars and has published four books and numerous articles on financial and business-related topics. He received his master’s and doctoral degrees in agricultural economics from Cornell University. He was professor of agricultural finance and small business management and entrepreneurship in the Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia.
Hurt is a professor of agricultural economics at Purdue University. His areas of specialty include family farm marketing problems, pricing strategies and crop and livestock futures market problems and pricing strategies. He has received the USDA Superior Service Group Award, an American Agricultural Economics Group Award and two Indiana Extension Service Awards.
During his presentation, Kohl stressed the importance of setting goals.
“Successful people are very goal-oriented,” said Kohl, adding that writing down goals is crucial. He advised having business, family and personal goals in order to maintain balance.
Kohl discussed the twelve practices of successful farmers/ranchers as well as the six degrees of goals setting.
“Your net worth in life, financially and mentally, is going to be associated with the type of people you associate with,” Kohl advised.
