Wawasee Sports Wrap: March 26
Softball
Wawasee earned another quality softball win, riding a solid performance from Bethany Flannery in a 3-1 win at Lakeland Monday night.
Flannery earned her first career varsity pitching win, throwing seven innings of six-hit ball. Flannery gave up a run in the first inning and worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the fifth, getting a strikeout looking to end the threat. She struck out four in her pitching debut.
Flannery helped her own cause by belting a two-run homer, the second of her career, the first coming at last year’s sectional at Lakeland.
Wawasee managed just four hits on Lakeland starter Elsie Edwards, who fanned 10 in an equally impressive pitching performance.
Wawasee moves to 2-0 on the season, looking at a matchup at West Noble Tuesday afternoon.
Baseball
The Wawasee baseball season opened formally on Monday with the Wawasee JV team walloping the Whitko juniors 25-0 in Syracuse.
Game statistics were not made available for either team.
Wawasee’s varsity season is expected to open Wednesday at home against Wabash.
