Grace Softball: Lancers Come Up Short
UPLAND – Grace College’s softball team was silenced on the road at Taylor on Thursday.
The Lady Lancers (10-26, 4-18 Crossroads League) lost 5-0 and 7-1 to Taylor on the second day of a brutal stretch which sees Grace play doubleheaders on four straight days.
The Trojans (18-10, 12-8 CL) won the first game 5-0 despite only holding a 7-5 advantage in hits.
Grace had a baserunner on second base in the first two innings, but Taylor kept the Lady Lancers off the scoreboard. The Trojans scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the fourth inning and pulled ahead 5-0 shortly after.
The best chance for Grace to score was in the top of the sixth. Emily Bobb and Sam Heim both reached scoring position with one out, but Taylor escaped the inning with two straight outs.
Bobb hit 2-for-3 to lead Grace’s offense, and Kyleigh Garner was 1-for-2.
In the second game, Grace fell behind 5-1 after two innings and never recovered. The Lady Lancers only mustered four hits in the game and a lone run in the first inning.
Abby Mozingo singled and stole second in the first. She went on to score on an error in the field for Grace’s only run.
Morgan Tapscott hit 1-for-2, and Bobb and Heim each had a hit.
The Lady Lancers return home on Friday and Saturday. Grace hosts Bethel on Friday at 3 p.m. and Spring Arbor on Saturday at 1 p.m.
