Girls Tennis
Nothing is slowing down the winning ways of the Warsaw girls tennis team right now.
Not even Mother Nature and the brutal Spring weather.
The Tigers moved indoors Wednesday for the second straight evening to pick up another win.
Warsaw, led by its stellar singles lineup, blanked Northridge by a 5-0 count in Northern Lakes Conference play at the Warsaw Tennis and Fitness Club.
The trio of seniors Liza Lewis and Ella Knight and sophomore Alyssa Zellers lost a total of just six games on the three singles courts as the Tigers moved to 2-0 in league play.
Lewis topped Riley Wheatley 6-1, 6-0 at No 1 action. Knight posted a 6-1, 6-3 win over Victoria Oakes at No. 2 and Zellers defeated Cassidy Overholt 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 for the Tigers.
Warsaw, which improved to 3-1 overall, also claimed both doubles matches in straight sets.
The duo of Tyler Shoaf and Libby Jenkins beat Kuylee Bontrager and Brynne Gayler 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1. The team of Reagan Merchants and Rachel Yeager topped Carlee Schroeder and Peyton Kueper 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2.
There was no junior varsity matches contested Wednesday night due to the match being moved indoors due to the weather.
Warsaw hosts Fairfield today and then hosts Fort Wayne Concordia on Friday.
Baseball
The Warsaw baseball team opened league play with a 7-3 loss at Goshen.
Drake Graham took the pitching loss for the Tigers in the Northern Lakes Conference contest.
Warsaw, now 2-2 overall and 0-1 in the NLC, will host Wawasee Thursday and play at Plymouth Friday in a pair of NLC games.
Softball
The Warsaw softball team dropped an 11-9 final to Goshen in conference play.
The Tigers rallied from a 10-5 deficit to cut the Goshen lead to just one run, but could not complete the comeback in the Northern Lakes Conference opener at Warsaw.
Goshen built a 5-2 lead before the Tigers tied the game with three runs in the fourth frame.
The RedHawks were up 10-5 before Warsaw got four runs on a single by Izzy Dittmar, a walk to Saylor Bradley and a single by Courtney Chookie.
Chookie took the pitching loss for Warsaw. She allowed eight hits with seven strikeouts.
Warsaw had seven errors in the game, while Goshen finished with two.
Dittmar and Anderson each had multiple hits and RBIs to lead the offense for the Tigers.
Warsaw, now 2-4 overall and 0-1 in the NLC, will play at Wawasee today in another NLC game.
