Claypool Traffic Stop Leads To Arrest
CLAYPOOL — A Claypool man was arrested on possession charges after a traffic stop led to the discovery of drugs and paraphernalia.
Gary Ray Miller Jr., 38, 1746 East CR 700S, Claypool, is being charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of a syringe and possession of paraphernalia.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, on April 4, an officer with the Claypool Police Department observed a black Chevrolet on Main Street fail to use a proper turn signal when turning onto Railroad Street.
The officer conducted a traffic stop. The female driver had an active arrest warrant from Whitley County Superior Court. The officer removed the female from the vehicle and arrested her. The officer discovered that both male passengers of the vehicle had suspended driver’s licenses. The officer observed a plastic bag containing white residue while removing the male passenger in the front seat. The officer inspected the plastic bag and then laid it back down on the seat while handcuffing the male passenger. When the officer looked back, the plastic bag containing white residue was missing. The only person remaining in the vehicle was Miller.
The officer spoke with Miller, who advised he was aware of the plastic bag. Upon searching the vehicle, the officer was unable to locate the plastic bag. In a rolled up coat, the officer found a black pouch containing three syringes. One of the syringes contained a brown liquid substance. The officer also found a clear plastic bag containing a white powder residue, a clear plastic straw, empty plastic bags, a metal spoon with burn marks and scissors. The white residue found in the plastic bag field-tested positive for methamphetamine.
Miller was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail on April 4 with a $5,250 surety and cash bond.
