Syracuse Man Sentenced In Connection To Morrison Island House Fire
WARSAW — A Syracuse man arrested in February on charges of arson, burglary and theft was sentenced Thursday, April 26, in Kosciusko Superior Court I.
Travys Lee Hise, 20, 10018 N. Mulberry Drive, Syracuse, was found guilty of residential entry, a level 6 felony.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, on Jan. 30, Turkey Creek Fire Department responded to a house fire at the residence of Steven Kelly on Morrison Island at Lake Wawasee. Officers with the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department investigated the scene and determined that the fire was set intentionally.
Construction workers in the area advised they had observed two male subjects walking westbound on Morrison Island Road shortly before the fire. The officer was able to locate the subjects and identified one as Hise and the other as a minor male.
Hise admitted to officers that he and the minor went to the Morrison Island residence and forced entry. He told officers the minor used a lighter located inside the residence to set things on fire. Hise further admitted to “vandalizing” the residence.
Hise was sentenced to one year in Kosciusko County Jail and will be allowed to serve the time through Community Corrections. He was given 78 days of jail time credit. Hise was ordered to pay court fees and to make restitution in the amount of $273,000 for the victim’s home.
Pursuant to the plea agreement, three other charges were dismissed.
