Meet And Greet With Greyhounds At Shopko
SYRACUSE — Four volunteers with American Greyhound, an organization based in Hobart dedicated to finding homes for unwanted greyhounds, were at the Shopko store in Syracuse Saturday, May 5, for a meet and greet with six greyhounds.
American Greyhound visits Syracuse the first Saturday of each month during the late spring and summer. The four volunteers were near the main entrance at Shopko for about two hours Saturday.
Volunteer Chris Egolf, of Cromwell, noted the dogs brought Saturday were either retired racers or service dogs. He said many people think of greyhounds as racing dogs and they can run as fast as 45 miles per hour, but they also are calm, laid back dogs who make good pets.
American Greyhound fosters dogs across northern and central Indiana and also into parts of Illinois.
