NorthWood Sports Wrap: May 8
Baseball
The NorthWood baseball team rolled past Bethany Christian 11-1.
The Panthers piled up 13 hits en route to the non-conference win over the host Bruins.
NorthWood scored eight runs in the fifth inning en route to the victory. Brock Miller smacked a triple and Payton Bear added a double in the key frame.
Nate Newcomer picked up the pitching win. He allowed just three hits and one unearned run in five innings with six strikeouts and one walk. Kyler Haurtil threw one inning in his first appearance on the hill.
Brant Mast led the offense by going 3-4 for the winners.
Brock Miller, along with Bear and Trey Allman each also had multiple hits for the Panthers.
NorthWood hosts NLC foe Warsaw Wednesday night.
Softball
The NorthWood softball team beat Bethany Christian 15-1.
The Panthers scored six runs in the fourth frame and seven more in the fifth inning en route to the non-conference win over the Bruins.
Gracie Clark fired a two-hitter in the circle for the winners. Clark also had two hits.
Kylie Hochstetler and Kylie Thornton each also had two hits as NorthWood piled up 13 hits.
Amanda Jenkins, along with Lili Lomeli, Alexis Klotz, Brooklyn Troyer, Kennedy Hochstetler, Halie DeMien and Grace Anglemyer each had one hit.
NorthWood plays at Warsaw in a conference contest Wednesday night.
Boys Golf
The NorthWood boys golf team picked up two league wins.
The Panthers shot a 165 to defeat both Concord (170) and host Goshen (195) in Northern Lakes Conference play.
Caleb Lung led the way for the Panthers as he shot an even par 36 to earn medalist honors in action at the Maplecrest Country Club.
Sean Hogan shot a 40 and Jacob Falk a 44 for NorthWood. Micah Pippenger and Randy Kauffman each shot a 45 for the winners.
NorthWood hosts Warsaw in NLC play at McCormick Creek on Thursday night.
