Warsaw Man Sentenced On Intimidation Charges
WARSAW — A Warsaw man was sentenced in Kosciusko Superior Court 1 on Thursday, May 10, after an incident that occurred in May 2017. Sloan J. White Jr., 35, 2603 West Side Drive, Warsaw, was found guilty of intimidation, a level 5 felony.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, on May 18, 2017, a Warsaw City police officer met with a female who advised she had been in a five year relationship with White. She informed the officer that White is being investigated for molesting A.A. She has been staying at her friend’s house at 2603 West Side Drive in Warsaw. The female stated that on May 15, KCSD responded to 2603 West Side Drive where White had an AR 15 rifle and was threatening to harm himself. Officers confiscated the AR 15 rifle and transported White to the Bowen Center for treatment.
The female further advised that on Feb. 16 she and White were at her apartment. That was the night she confronted White about the accusations A.A. had made about White molesting her. White went to the bedroom and came back with an AR rifle and loaded the rifle with ammunition. He placed the muzzle under his chin and threatened to kill himself.
When the female picked up the phone to call 911, White walked toward her and pointed the loaded rifle at her face for approximately two minutes and told her to put the phone down. She advised she feared for her life. White then paced around and stated he was going to save them all the misery. She advised that during the incident, White was on the phone with a male friend.
The officer spoke with the male, who advised that on Feb. 16, he was on the phone with White, trying to keep him from shooting himself. He was aware that White had a rifle. He heard part of the conversation during the incident. The male said White later told him that he had pointed the gun at the female and told her if she called the law he would take her with him. The male advised that he begged White to not kill himself.
In court today, White’s attorney, Joseph Sobek, told Judge David Cates that White was released from jail due to medical issues, including blood clots and infection. White is under the care of a doctor and is scheduled to undergo surgery on May 15.
White is currently residing in Fort Wayne and reported that he hopes to return to work for his former employer in Columbia City as soon as he is medically cleared. Once he is able to save enough money, White said he would like to return to Tennessee where he is originally from.
Judge Cates gave White jail time credit for 329 days already served and sentenced White to three years in the Kosciusko County Jail, with the sentence to be suspended and served on formal probation. White was ordered to comply with all terms of probation, including obtaining and maintaining employment. Cates stated that the rifle would be given to law enforcement to use or dispose of. White was ordered to report to the Otis R. Bowen Center for a mental health assessment and to complete any recommended treatment. A no contact order was issued in regard to the victim.
“The victim better not even know you’re on the planet,” said Cates. “Any contact may result in revocation of the suspended sentence.”
