Warsaw Sports Wrap: May 11
Baseball
Michael Nunez was on his game for the Warsaw baseball team.
Nunez turned in an outstanding pitching performance to lead the Tigers to a 2-1 win over Northridge.
Nunez went the distance on the hill as Warsaw edged the host Raiders in the Northern Lakes Conference contest. He allowed just three hits and no earned runs in the complete game gem.
Nunez also did his part at the plate with a pair of hits for Warsaw in the win.
The duo of Jared Hawley and Brendan Perry each also had two hits for the Tigers.
Warsaw improves to 5-12 overall and goes to 3-9 in NLC action.
The Warsaw junior varsity team beat Northridge 12-8. Luis Alonzo had a monster game at the plate as he went 4-5 with two doubles and seven RBI for the Tigers. Drew Yeager picked up the pitching win as Warsaw improved to 14-2-1.
Warsaw hosts Carroll for a doubleheader Saturday at 10 a.m. The Tigers then return to NLC play by hosting Concord Monday night.
Softball
The Warsaw softball team dropped a 4-2 final to Northridge.
The Raiders scored three runs in the sixth inning en route to the Northern Lakes Conference victory.
Warsaw took a 1-0 lead in the fourth frame. Northridge then took a 3-1 lead before the Tigers scored in the sixth to make it 3-2. The Raiders added a single tally in the seventh inning.
Allison Hostetler picked up the win in the circle. The junior went all seven innings for the Raiders, allowing just five hits with nine strikeouts. Hostetler had pitched a no-hitter on Monday in a huge 9-0 NLC win over Concord. That league victory moved the Raiders into a tie for first place in the conference with Concord.
Courtney Chookie took the loss for the Tigers. The junior allowed six hits and four runs in seven innings with one walk.
Adara Frey and Katie Anderson each had two hits to pace Warsaw.
The Tigers, who fall to 8-11 overall and 6-6 in the NLC, played errorless ball in the field.
Northridge improves to 14-4 overall and stands at 11-1 in NLC action.
Warsaw hosts its own Tiger Tournament Saturday starting at 9 a.m. The Tigers then play at NLC foe Concord on Monday night.
Northridge hosts Elkhart Memorial in a league game Monday night.
Warsaw Tigers Varsity racked up five hits on the day. Adara Frey and Katie Anderson all managed multiple hits for Warsaw Tigers Varsity. Anderson and Frey each collected two hits to lead Warsaw Tigers Varsity. Warsaw Tigers Varsity was sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Hailey Locke made the most plays with 13.
Warsaw falls to 8-11 overall and 6-6 in the NLC Conference.
