Warsaw, Winona Lake Bike To Work Week Is May 14–18
KOSCIUSKO — National Bike Month includes an ever-expanding diversity of events in communities nationwide — but the biggest day of the month is Bike to Work Day. This year, Bike to Work Week will be May 14–18, with Bike to Work Day on May 18.
Warsaw and Winona Lake are no exception. As a Bicycle Friendly Community, the Kosciusko County Velo Cycling Club is always looking for ways to encourage people to safely get out on their bikes. Commuting to work is one of the easiest ways to do that. KCV is working hard to make that an easier decision by developing bicycling infrastructure like the greenways and the Market Street Corridor.
Also, this year during Bike to Work week is the unveiling of the Zimmer Biomet Bikeshare program that will feature 20 rental bikes spread across four stations in Warsaw and Winona Lake. For detail visit www.zagster.com/Kosciusko
Forty percent of all trips by car in the U.S. are less than two miles, making bicycling a feasible and fun alternative way to get to work. With increased interest in healthy, sustainable and economic transportation options, it’s not surprising that, from 2000 to 2013, the number of bicycle commuters in the U.S. grew by more than 62 percent.
In our community, Bike to Work week leads up to the 2018 Fat & Skinny Bike Festival on May 18-20. National Bike to Work Day on Friday, May 18, leads right up to the Friday evening Bike Festival opening event with the Community Bike Ride from Winona Lake to downtown Warsaw. Meet at the Trailhouse in Winona Lake at 6 p.m. to join a few hundred of your friends for a ride down Center Street.
Also on Bike to Work Day the Light Rail Café in Winona Lake and Three Crowns Coffee will be offering discounts to people riding to work that morning, and The Garden in Winona Lake will be provide a Happy Hour for commuters.
It’s as easy as riding a bike.
