BREAKING: Semi Vs. Train Leaves A Mess
LEESBURG — A semitractor-trailer stuck on the tracks in Leesburg was hit by a southbound Norfolk Southern train at approximately 7:30 a.m. today.
The impact with the trailer hauling pontoon boats from SmokerCraft, New Paris, left a debris field approximately 200 yards of parts from the pontoons, the trailer, crossing control device, railroad ties and stones. There was damage sustained to the building at Nuell Inc., 312 E. Van Buren St.
The driver of the semitractor was not injured.
The impact occurred at VanBuren Street and Harper Road/Old SR 15. The southbound train was able to stop just south of Deatsman’s grain, south of the Prairie Street crossing.
According to information at the scene the semitractor-trailer and its load is valued at $250,000. No damage estimate to the train, rails, and crossing control was available.
