LEESBURG – It wasn’t an ideal day for golf, but Penn made it a great day to showcase its talents just a couple weeks ahead of the state tournament. The No. 9 ranked Kingsmen shot a blistering 293 to storm the field at the Bob Turner Classic at Tippecanoe Lake Country Club.

No. 4 Bishop Dwenger came in next at 306, followed by Warsaw Black at 315, NorthWood at 327, Triton at 331, Manchester at 338, Wawasee at 348 and Warsaw Orange at 358.

In what comprised a potential Battle Royale of regional qualifier hopefuls, Penn worked the Tippy course to a tee, landing all five of its varsity scores in the 70s. Led by Ben Szklarek’s 72, the Kingsmen posted its lowest team score of the season. Grant Wargo and Baz Furry each shot 73, Zach Hale had a 75 and Josh Yoder shot 76. Their scores could have been lower as Kingsman individual Josh Gaughan posted a 71 playing outside the varsity five.

Logan Ryan paced Dwenger with the medalist round of 69.

Warsaw Black, which finished second at the Northern Lakes Conference Championships last weekend and is ranked No. 19, placed third on the strength of Tommy Meier’s 76 and Sam Yeager’s 77. Chase Byron had a 79 while Luke Delp and Jacob LaLonde each shot 83. The Warsaw Orange were led by Zach LaLonde’s 82.

Triton kept pace with its top scores, a 79 from Beau Hepler and 80 from Keegan Westafer. Isaac Wall added an 83 and Chase Butler struggled a little at 89, followed by Brock Watkins at 90.

Wawasee got quality rounds from Dillon Drake and Zach Leedy at 81 and 83, respectively, but then sagged to a 90 from Evan Dippon, 94 from Tyler Bosstick and 106 from Aiden Jonsson.

Manchester’s Harley Kruschwitz continued to play high-level golf with his round of 71, tied with Gaughlan for second-best at the meet. Nathan Self added a second score in the 70s with a 78. Klayton Hendrix at 92, Konrad Borgmann at 95 and Logan Parrett at 101 rounded out the Squire scores.

NorthWood’s scores were not immediately reported.
