Whitko Artists Make Huge Showing At State Competition
LARWILL — Electric Consumer magazine hosted its 21st annual student calendar contest for the 2019 cooperative calendar and students at Whitko made a strong showing in the competition.
The contest provides young Hoosier artists a unique opportunity to express themselves and develop their artistic talent, while possibly earning cash prizes and statewide acclaim. The contest is open to young Hoosier artists at grade levels of kindergarten through 12th grade.
More than 2,200 pieces of art from all over Indiana were entered in the contest and artists from Whitko Community School Corporation turned in noteworthy performances.
Winners of the Award of Merit advance past the first round of judging in their grade division. This award is reserved for the top 25 students in each age group.
Winning students from Whitko included Abby Arter, Celeste Logan, Hope Eberly, Reannon Hopkins, Kayce Sims, Haley Howard, Aneka Paduga, Jacqueline Werstler, Lauren Hollenbaugh, Ella Kay Danner, Devin Blaine, Abigail Martin, Summer West, Hailey Elder, Sidney Overmeyer, Logan Busz, Bryce Tucker, Johnny Couch, Julia Seifert, Kaylee Gaff, Shianna Bradley, Harley Bradley, Kaitlin Frank, Luke Rhoades, Adrienne Aughinbaugh, Myra Buckles, Umut Boran, Ritchelle Stieglitz and Lazarus Neer.
Sims, along with senior Ezra Miller were awarded honorable mentions and Frank won top honors for the 11th grade division in the state contest.
Frank was awarded a $200 cash prize each, and her artwork will be featured in the May issue of Electric Consumer and printed as the cover of her month, November, within the 13-month calendar.
